ice-cream-778311_1280July is National Ice Cream Month, and while I don’t always “scream for ice cream” for my patients, we all deserve a treat on occasion. To help you celebrate, while still maintaining standards for nutrition, I offer the following list of healthier ice cream options:

Low fat:
Weight Watchers® Greek Frozen Yogurt Bars – Blueberry Swirl
Each bar has only 0.5 gram of fat and 80 calories. However, if you need to watch the sugar, know that just one packs 13 grams.

Low fat + lactose free + gluten free:
Lifeway Frozen Kefir – Mango
A half-cup of this frozen treat has one gram of fat and 90 calories. While it’s all natural, it comes with its share of sugar, too – at 16 grams per serving.

Dairy free + cholesterol free:
So Delicious Almond Milk Dairy-free Frozen Dessert – Mint Chip
Using the same serving size as above – ½ cup, this almond-based frozen dessert has higher calories at 140 and higher fat at 8 grams, but provides a great dairy-free, cholesterol-free option.

Low sugar + dairy free:
So Delicious Minis No Sugar Added Fudge Bars
Made from healthy and delicious coconut milk, these perfectly-portioned chocolate bars each contain 80 calories, six grams of fat and only one gram of sugar.

As you can see, there is no perfect ice cream, but there are healthier options for every lifestyle. So treat yourself without remorse and within reason this month designated for ice cream lovers.
